I have been playing with the idea of scanning the “Description historique des monnaies frappées sous l'Empire Romain” since about 10 years ago. I was lucky enough to have on hand a rather nice copy of Cohen's work in the original 1880 edition, which was suitable for scanning.
Then, being a programmer by profession, I happened to be working on a program to ease the preparation of on-line facsimile editions of books. Cohen's wonderful catalog seemed to be an almost perfect test subject for such a program.
This product, soon to be distributed under the name of WebSimile, is made by a number of software tools that ease the process of creating such sites. It covers everything from the processing of the scanned images to the tagging of pages to the assembly of the pages into a finished website.
